Curse or Massacre ?

Columnist Cito Beltran wrote an essay titled ‘Cursing the Promised Land’ which relates to my blog I attached below. He wrote: ‘…The earliest curse I can recall in Philippine history was when a Conquistador reportedly named “the place” Isla De Ladrones or Island of Thieves’ (a place somewhere near the Visayas).

President M.L.Quezon’s curse might have actually worked when he said, ‘I would rather have a country run like hell by Filipinos rather than heaven run by foreigners.’ He might be regretting his words now. But Beltran ended his piece by admonishing his countrymen to stop the cursing so the blessings would come. Nice.

By the way, Philippines has done it again! She was rated worst in corruption in Southeast Asia said the Global Corruption Report. Well—better to curse than massacre.

Please help me on this: Why is Philippines the only country addressed with the honorific ‘THE’ when my country is obviously not honorable?

My suspicion: greedy oligarchs from time eternal saw that Philippines is so very, very rich in natural resources they have to honor it as a god.

Just look at history and see how our leaders sold or were manipulated in giving away some of our very rich islands.
