More Bionic Now
Do you remember the ‘Bionic Man’ of the 70’s? Well, the bionic eye is now a reality. Look for ‘Bionic Vision’ (Cheri Robertson) at YouTube. Now, we have the i-Limb bionic hand. From Touch Bionics: ‘Early in his recovery at BAMC, Sgt. Arredondo began to work with Hanger and its clinicians. He has been fitted with multiple prosthetic solutions, both body-powered and myoelectric. The body-powered...

BABY BOOMERS
Someone sent me this essay. I’ll post it here not to plagiarize but because I think the essay is very profound. I’m sorry but it was written in ‘taglish’ i.e Tagalog-English but it still remains great. I’ll include the author’s name later when I find out who. Just ignore the html script and roll down a little. REFLECTIONS v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} ...

MY FIRST
The article below is my first as a professional writer. Please congratulate me: EDI Software: A Booming Business   Is you’re business getting too big for you? Electronic Data Interchange is just what you need.   Electronic Data Interchange (EDI software and EDI outsourcing) refers to the structured transmission of data  between organizations by electronic means. It is more than mere E-mail;...

TORTURE at GUANTANAMO
I was working on an article about ‘lawyer malpractice’ when I read about Reisner’s crusade against psychiatrist malpractice at Guantanamo jail.   Both Steven Reisner, a psychiatrist, and Col. Larry James, a psychologist, claim that they work against prisoner torture. But Reisner said that ’psychologists should not be working there…’(Guantanamo). James replied that ‘people...

DEAD WORM BREATHING
If there’s someone who doesn’t know what the meaning of shame is, it’s this worm Jocjoc Bulate of Philippines. Why? The trick of feigning heart illness to avoid senate investigation is already rotten old.

IDIOT FILIPINO TV
Jim Paredes is right when he wrote that ‘we need to take control’ of the Filipino media. Our TV programs (especially noontime shows) encourage ‘an immature, childish and dysfunctional’ Filipino image.   Some flips are really experts in making the TV a truly ‘idiot box’. Like themselves.

BRITISH PUBS
Whenever I read British literature, fiction or not, ‘pubs’ or ‘locals’ are always mentioned. Now William Underhill says that the pubs ‘which are essential to the national character’ are disappearing because of high prices and low sales.   A brewer named Jonathan Neame asks: ‘Do we really want to live a society where everyone gets takeaway pizzas in front of a DVD and no one talks to anyone?’   If...

GENIUS SUICIDES
D F Wallace just made it on the list of genius philosophers who committed suicide. His action triggered back questions which have been nagging at me for a long while: What type of people commit suicide? Why do some great artists and thinkers commit suicide and some do not?   Some artists grew up in a loving environment and some in harsh ‘fight or die’ one. Some die of sorrow while others die...

WIRELESS NET
Realize this: wireless technology isn’t really so amazingly new—the idiot television box is wireless and we’ve had it since many decades before. It suddenly occurred to me that teaching children who haven’t mastered the alphabet yet to use the Net—mainly gaming—would inspire or force them to study words i.e. the alphabet. The vast powers of the Net are really amazing and awesome.   Bertrand Russel...

NEW AMERICAN COLOR
After all speculations, American conservatism or radicalism will decide who will be the next US president; conservatism because there has never been a black US president before—radicalism because voters believe in trying everything new.   Was Richard Rodriguez right when he wrote that America’s new national color is neither white nor black but brown?

EXPORTING CORRUPTION
Even if the bundle of cash which Philippine National Police director Dela Paz brought into Russia is legal, the world will still be wondering how could he carry such amount when the RP Armed Forces can’t even provide decent equipment to its soldiers.   Former Gen. Lacson even said there’s no such thing as ‘contingency fund’ for travel expenses!   If you’re a cop or a...

GOOD for WHOM?
Two hellfire journalists have just lambasted their own USA. Bill Saporito wrote that while US loves to mock France’s Laissez-faire economy, she now resembles France. Then Justin Fox said that ‘once the panic about housing crash and resulting credit crunch has passed, the US will be steering toward another bigger crisis unless it finds something to replace debt as its number one export.’ If...

GREEN WARS
We should be grateful to EnviroMedia for warning us that the true green companies and the whole green movement would be drowned by ‘greenwashing’ or green lies. Those who care may report fake greens or ‘greenwashing’ at index.com or terrachoice.com. Ted Nordhaus and Michael Shellenberger may be pessimistic apostates of the green movement but they’re realists. Imagine writing an essay titled ‘The...

POISON TO ALL
In Japan, executives and officials, high- powered or not, still commit suicide if they realize their actions were shameful. China’s Premiere Wen Jiabao is still making excuses for his administration’s corruption and guilt for spreading poison and peril all over the world. This Wen should realize that he’s a poison to Buddhism too. Maybe this Wen thinks that the whole world is as cheap as he...

SCARY PROSPECT?
If it is true that Sarah Palin is a mafia style executrix and that ‘McCain has an actuarial survival rate of two to four years for his cancer’, the prospect of a Palin presidency is scary ( Naomi Wolf has written). Wolf also compared Palin to Eva Peron. By the way, Wolf is a white American female.

HUSTLER HYPNOTISTS
This is an excerpt from an article written by Dr. Jimmy Licauco about hypnotism. It’s important because it could be used against crime: ‘A well known story of the use of hypnosis to rob a bank is told by parapsychologist Colin Wilson in “ Mysterious Powers” published in 1975. Stalin in 1940 tested the telepathic powers of a Polish psychic, Wolf Messing, by asking Messing to withdraw 100,000 rubles...

MANNA from HELL
It wouldn’t be surprising if it turns out that more than fifty percent of the world’s population has ingested some amount of melamine considering how many food products and anything ingested are turning out to be tainted. Where has the shopper erred? When the fake Ma Ling meat loaf was found tainted with rotten meat (in Philippines), the world should have stopped buying anything Chinese. Remember...

TAXI DEVILS
A tip for those who leave office at mid-morning by taxi: once inside the taxi, call someone by you’re mobile and mention the cab’s license number and name making sure the driver hears you loud. That would stop the driver from being stupid or demonic. Don’t be stupid yourself considering you earn a lot.

Curse or Massacre ?
Columnist Cito Beltran wrote an essay titled ‘Cursing the Promised Land’ which relates to my blog I attached below. He wrote: ‘…The earliest curse I can recall in Philippine history was when a Conquistador reportedly named “the place” Isla De Ladrones or Island of Thieves’ (a place somewhere near the Visayas). President M.L.Quezon’s curse might have actually worked when he said, ‘I would rather...

LIBERAL or CONSERVATIVE?
People who support conservative policies such as military spending, school prayer, and death penalty react strongly to stimuli, while the ones who backed liberal policies such as foreign aid, pacifism, gay marriage and abortion were calmer. The study was conducted by researchers from Rice University (Texas), University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of Illinois, Virginia IPBG, and Science...

Honorable Philippines??
Please help me on this: Why is Philippines the only country addressed with the honorific ‘THE’ when my country is obviously not honorable? My suspicion: greedy oligarchs from time eternal saw that Philippines is so very, very rich in natural resources they have to honor it as a god. Just look at history and see how our leaders sold or were manipulated in giving away some of our very rich islands.

Vision?
‘the quiet, invisible network floated out…The whole web of communication quivered at the slightest touch.’ (Oman) That wasn’t about the Net. It was a quote from Michael Gilbert’s book ‘Danger Within’ that was published in 1952. And the quote was about military communication inside a prison camp.

Russia And Georgia
Should Russia take the blame for attacking Georgia? It was obvious that Georgia made the first move and provoked Russia by ordering tanks into its capital. If Georgia wasn’t lulled into believing that the US would rush to its aid like a big brother, would she be so bold to do as it has done? Now it’s not surprising that some Georgians are blaming Bush and Saakashvili for their torment. If Georgia...

WORLD CYBERWAR
European bloggers now believe that the ‘First Internet World War’ has begun—because Estonia, Lithuania and Poland offered their servers to host Georgian government websites against Russia. Governments can rent attack botnets from Russia Business Network. Anybody with a pc or laptop can participate in the cyberwar. It looks as if some virtual reality videogames have now become just reality. Wow.

Charlie Otero's Hell
Charlie Otero’s case once again proved that many morally-upright people are merely just forced into lawlessness and irresponsibility. What would have happened if the US judicial courts treated him more harshly? Most possibly he would’ve ‘exploded’—taking others with him. We must be grateful that justice scored another rare triumph once again. And that Charlie, another victim, escaped from...

McCain as Netizen
Considering John McCain’s age, it’s not surprising that he doesn’t use e-mail. But I agree with Lev Grossman that McCain should be a netizen too. There might come a time when he needs to use the Net for emergencies or cyberwarfare. The irony for him is that people are now using less e-mail because most of it are just work distraction. Companies should follow the example of Intel which has ‘e-mail...

VIOLENCE
VIOLENCE in the USA Just in case you haven’t read these facts yet: 1. In the years 96 and 97 alone, more Americans died from gunshot wounds than were killed during the entire Vietnam war. 2. In the US, 20,000 guns enter the stream of commerce everyday. 3. Almost a thousand Californians are shot every week. 4. Seventy children die every week at the hand of a parent—most under five years old. 5....
